Hello and welcome to the Alpaca Acá website.
The idea for Alpaca Acá came whilst halfway up a mountain in the
Peruvian Andes in December of 2006. Wanting a change of scene from busy
London life, I decided to give up my job and go travelling for a
year, both to improve my Spanish and experience a different culture.
I was in South America for six months, two of which I spent in Peru working in a backpackers' hostel in Arequipa, the south of the country.
Arequipa is a beautiful city built in white volcanic rock by the Spanish in the 15th Century.
It also happens to be the centre of the alpaca industry. It is here
that I discovered the luxurious qualities of baby alapca wool and set
about selecting some simple designs to bring to the UK.
The company that I source the garments from is committed to investing in the
textile and farming industry of Peru. This is extremely important as the Alpaca industry is the lifeblood of the local rural economy.
The future is bright for Alpaca Acá (Acá means here in South American Spanish), with plans to add an exciting designer collection to the existing classics in 2008.
So have a browse online, or maybe I'll see you at one of the shows I will be attending.
